For the sake of education reform, it is only a matter of time until the traditional high school diploma is rendered obsolete by the time children reach high school. This is an extremely exciting time for parents and students alike. In the future, diplomas will be based on students’ individual academic and vocational experiences rather than the outdated curriculums that were in place prior to 2014. By the time a child reaches high school age in 2014, it is expected that the traditional high school diploma will become an anachronism. Students graduating from high school in 2032 may have different experiences and skills than those graduating in the current academic year. As a result of this change in educational philosophy, the manner in which high school students prepare for college is already being altered. In many states, the traditional high school model is being replaced by “personalized learning” models that emphasize students’ individual strengths and interests. A major educational reform movement is currently taking place in the United States.
